started in August of 2022 By Zach Smith, the goal of the group was initially to identify and implement methods to test and address water, air, and soil quality issues. Many of our early meetings were spent attempting to create an investigative framework, which we realized required more knowledge of both community problems and current techniques. We thus spent time trying to find relevant community stakeholders and current community scientists working in environmental justice to have those conversations, which took longer than expected: one of our main takeaways in the creation of this project is that finding the right connections is both extremely difficult and extremely important for any meaningful scientific investigation.
